A Khutbah ritual has been held after the evening prayers at Enghelab-e Eslami courtyard of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine on the occasion of the night of Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), falling on Muharram 9.
Khutbah ritual, the primary formal occasion for religious gatherings or public preaching in the Islamic tradition, is one of the ancient and long-lasting traditions at Astan Quds Razavi (AQR), the body in charge of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine, that is practiced twice a year only, i.e. martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS) and the night of Ashura.
The ceremony, this year, observed servants of the holy shrine standing in a large circle round the Enghelab-e Eslami courtyard with burning candles in their hands. They chanted eulogies and mournful religious texts on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and expressed condolences to his true lineage Imam Reza (AS).
Khutbah rite came next with recitation of texts to testify Oneness of the Almighty God, worshipping the One God, saluting the Prophet (pbuh) and the Infallible Imams (AS), and commemorating martyrs of the Islamic Revolution, the Late Imam Khomeini, and finally wishing health and longer life for the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
After Khutbah rite, the servants joined hundreds of mourners who chanted eulogies and shed tears for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 true companions.
