The second conference of Holy Shrines' Art and Architecture in Contemporary Age kicked off at the Islamic Research Foundation of Astan Quds Razavi, the body in charge of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine, in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province.
According to Mohammad Kazem Molazem al-Hosseini, the managing director of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine Development Organization, the two-day conference is to review experiences on development plans of the holy shrines.
"We intend to use the experiences by other holy shrines' custodianships in Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine development plans." Hosseini said. "We hope the development experiences of the other holy shrines and the expert-level opinions on these plans would help us make better plans for the future fields of activity."
Speaking at the ceremony, Abdolhamid Noqrekar, a contemporary architect, also asserted that, "It is necessary to make use of the latest technological achievements in designing the development plans of the holy shrines. The major approaches in any development plan at the holy shrines shall be restoration of structure, consistency and conformity with genuine values, and harmonized and novel proportionality of the structure with the historical and artistic values.”
