Despite ongoing threats and sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is possible to make use of the God-given blessings of water and soil, material and spiritual reserves and resources, and efficient manpower to gain economic, agricultural and industrial independence, says Hoj. Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, the general custodian of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of some agricultural projects at Nemooneh agro-industry farm, belonging to Astan Quds Razavi (AQR), Hoj. Raeisi stressed the necessity to apply knowledge-based technologies for optimal use of water and soil in producing agricultural products.
“This approach is on the agenda of the AQR’s Economic Organization and Agricultural Holding Company. We hope the outcomes of such an approach will be met in production of strategic agricultural products such as seeds, seedlings and saplings,” he said.“It is not acceptable for us to import seeds for our farmers from Europe. To gain self-sufficiency in seed supply we must embark on production of science and applying knowledge-based technologies. AQR Agricultural Holding has taken good steps to that end.”
The general custodian of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine believes that there are very good potentials for creating jobs in producing medicinal herbs.
“To play a role in this field, Astan Quds Razavi changed the function and mission of Sangan Cement Factory in order to create thousands of jobs by launching a medicinal herbs’ farmland.”
According to Hoj. Raeisi, implementation of sub-surface irrigation systems is an instance of knowledge-based activity that will help produce agricultural products on around a thousand hectares of lands belonging to Astan Quds Razavi within a few months.
The general custodian of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine is of the opinion that merging the potentials and capacities of the three sectors of university, market and industry “will definitely boost productivity in agricultural sector” and “will help realization of economic independence.”
