Truthfulness and honesty, most important attributes of believers

Honesty in speech is one of the most important factors that strengthen and sustain the family core.

The above was stated by Ayatollah Mohsen Kazerouni during a series of meetings on the occasion of the first ten days of Muharram, held at Imam Khomeini portico of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine.

Expounding upon the traits of believers including truthfulness, honesty and not bothering others within the family and in the society, he said: “If family members are not sincere with each other, the spirit of trust in the family disappears and its very foundation trembles.”

He settled at another characteristic of the believers which is generosity, calling a true believer the one whose benevolence always affects others, especially the needy.

“Helping people, feeding the hungry, and helping the afflicted are other attributes of a faithful Muslim. One who claims to have faith must also have these good manners,” he stressed.

Touching upon other qualities of a believer, he recounted intelligence, saying that the traditions tell us that the believer is the smartest among the worldly people, meaning in the market and business place, and in the hereafter, they are the most pious ones.

“A faithful Muslim is always a helping hand to the oppressed and an enemy to the oppressor. One of the lessons that can be learned from Ashura is this that human beings should never be an oppressor’s hand,” he remarked.

Kazerouni pointed to the people who were willing to give their property in the cause of Imam Hussein (AS) during the Ashura incident, saying, however, they were not willing to go to war and sacrifice their lives and Imam Hussein (AS) refused their aid because they were not honest about their help.
