Board member of Iranian Society of Optometry, warned about the risk of increasing prevalence of myopia following the heavy and excessive exploitation of mobile phones, tablets and PC's.
According to Astan News, Dr. Abdollah Farzaneh, on the sidelines of the 17th Congress of Khorasan Optometry said, “Myopia is spreading too fast, especially among the youth and adolescents, while it could be the subject of prevention.”
“We have to train our children, youths and adolescents to care by setting the distance of the device from the eyes, adjusting the ambient light, and following the law of ‘twenty-two-twenty’” he stated, mentioning training as the right solution to avoid the prevalence of myopia caused by prolonged use of electronic devices such as mobile phones and tablets.
“According to the law, for every twenty minutes working with such devices, between two to five minutes of rest is needed” he expressed on the “twenty-two-twenty” law.
“CBS syndrome, in fact includes diseases such as neck pain, back pain, eyestrain, and so on, which happen after long use of computers, tablets, and mobile phones” he said, pointing to the other eye damages caused by long-term use of electronics devices.
The optometrist, stressed the importance of screening examinations, especially in early childhood and adolescence and added, “Administration and making eyeglasses and sunglasses is in the area of optometrists expertise, and the involvement of non-expert people in the task, has no other result but risking the eye health of people.”
